What ingredients are used in Similasan products?
Homeopathic medicines contain ingredients that originate in the form of minerals, animals and organically grown plants. These ingredients are serially diluted according to homeopathic principles. The final result is a non-toxic, homeopathic medicine.

What are the side effects of Similasan products?
Similasan products cause no known side effects. Rarely initial exacerbation of symptoms may occur before improvement is seen. This is part of the homeopathic healing process.

Will Similasan products cause dependency or the “rebound effect?”
While conventional OTC medicines (i.e. antihistamines, lubricants and vasoconstrictors) clear up the symptoms temporarily, those same symptoms often come back with shorter periods of relief in between applications. For this reason, many people develop a dependency on OTC eye drops and nasal sprays. On the contrary, Similasan products stimulate the body to heal on its own and do not contain substances that produce dependence.

Can Similasan Eye Drops be used with contact lenses?
In the event of using the 10ml dropper bottles which contain a preservative it is advised that contact lens wearers remove their contact lenses before each treatment and wait at least 15 minutes before replacing the lenses. This is recommended in order to avoid build-up of preservatives from the eye drops onto the contact lenses.

Also available are preservative free eye drops which are supplied in Unit Dose Vials specifically for Dry, Red Eye Relief and Allergy Eye Relief.

Why is the dosing different to conventional medicines?
Homeopathy is a naturopathic form of medicine – it assists the body’s own healing energies rather than overrides them. As small stimuli are necessary to encourage living systems, dosing needs to be at low concentrations and frequent. Therefore, in the acute stage of the condition i.e. for the first day or two when symptoms are strong, the products are used every few hours, sometimes hourly. When the symptoms subside, the dose is generally reduced to 3-4 times a day or less if required. Check each individual product dosing instructions before use.
